Bontang Mangrove Park, as an educational tourism in Bontang.
The Kutai National Park Office has begun to provide a new destination for the bontang community, which is expected to be able to become a tourist attraction as well as serve as an educational tool for the surrounding community regarding mangrove trees, since 2018. The Bontang Mangrove Park or simply BMP for short is a fast-growing tourist destination in Bontang City which has been growing rapidly in recent years. BMP consists of a spectacular expanse of mangrove ecosystems with a variety of vegetation and animal species, which enhances its natural potential through the provision of extraordinary expanse of mangrove ecosystems.
As a BMP concept, Conservation,
Education, and Adventure aspire to become the best medium to disseminate the knowledge
of mangrove trees in Indonesia by providing the best education and adventure.
In support of the purpose of BMP as an educational tool, the boardwalk that
stretches from land to sea provides a wealth of data and facts related to the
types of vegetation found in mangrove forests and how they differ from each
other. In addition to the 1.3 km long boardwalk, also facilitated by a viewing
tower with a height of 20 m, this tower can be used as a "bird
watching" tool. the view of this viewing tower is right overlooking the
sea of the Makassar Strait. There are several Pavilions located in the welcome
area that can be used as places for migrants to relax for a while. For those
who want to do their business indoors, a Meeting Hall has been provided in the welcome
area and can accommodate 200-300 individuals. The welcome area is also being
prepared as a campground that can accommodate up to a thousand people.
In terms of doing the destination of
each visitor, it is recommended that the best time for tourists to visit BMP
tours is during the day from morning to evening. Sunrise, can be felt through
the boardwalk from the Menara Pandang with a view overlooking the sea-Makassar
Strait. Sunset with a view of the lights from the operating factory looks
beautiful from across the BMP, this is the favorite time for sunset hunters.
the right time for jogging at BMP can be done in the morning and evening when
the natural conditions that surround it still feel cool. There is a visitor's
center available on the site where visitors can get a closer look at the
diversity of mangrove forests and their ecosystems during the day.
Consequently, it is possible to see rows of small fish that fill the open area
along the boardwalk at the lowest low tide. This further confirms the use of the
mangrove forest as a spawning ground for fish, shrimp, crabs, and some other
marine animals when they become adults, which will spread into the open
ocean after a certain period of time.
It is
the duty of the Kutai National Park Office to ensure the protection and
improvement of the quality of the BMP ecosystem. As part of its efforts, this
is done through various activities such as waste management, mangrove forest
planting, area security, and biodiversity monitoring.
